Last week, I opened up about my love for poetry and gave a signal that I would shift some of my focus on this page to include glimpses of poets that I admire and original content. I am excited to bring you the first installment of a collaboration that I did with my brother
. Our friendship is so meaningful to me. I respect him as a brother, friend, pastor, and colleague. (Check us out on our podcast Three Black Men). The topic that we chose to write around and muse through is “Imagination.” Here is his poem:
in the beginning, God created.
in the midst of chaos came goodness.
light. bursting through the darkness
in the madness, we find a rhythm.
And if we are made in that image…
we should probably do the same.
We are limited not by what we can see.
but by what we can imagine.
Be loved, beloved. And imagine yourself
A CREATOR.
and. here is a musing/poem I wrote on imagination:
nothing that is outside of me
could ever diminish that which is inside
and I know because I live in a cold world
a frigid world of rules, responsibilities, hate, and rigidity.
when I close my eyes in the night or in the day
and allow my breath to slow,
I tumble into a world unending,
with free Black boys and a song that rings through the land
entitled “more than enough”

I just love you two.
This was simply beautiful. Especially about imagination. I love that God gave us that piece of Himself through the vastness of what we can create all in our heads and sometimes expressed from our hands and voices. Please, keep sharing your poetry!
