Shifting and Renewing
“When warm weather came, Baby Suggs, holy, followed by every black man, woman, and child who could make it through, took her great heart to the Clearing--a wide-open place cut deep in the woods nobody knew for what at the end of the path known only to deer and whoever cleared the land in the first place.” Toni Morrison
I have been thinking about the Clearing a lot recently. This fictional refuge that Toni Morrison creates in her book Beloved. A place that Black people can be seen, known, and take up space. A place of imagination and emotion. In that same spirit, my mind and body have been slowly renewing. I have been taking up practices like long, slow walks in order to practice quietness and contemplation. On those walks I take in the sunlight, the fresh air…and I dream. My imagination is high. My creativity is high.
And so, I am wanting to shift my substack just a bit to make space for my creativity. I will still be posting Sunday posts regularly for free. It means so much to me to be able to be with you all on Sundays. Many of you have reached out to let me know that my writing is part of your Sunday or Monday ritual. How precious. I may also share another free post during the month as well. I will also continue to release different musings, essays, and my poetry on the paid/premium side. It just won’t be tied to a fixed day of the week. From time to time I will host special guests as well with writings/interviews. One other thing that I will do for premium members is host a q and a space once a month.
Thank you all for your continued solidarity with me. The way that you uplift me, share my words and work…it is so moving. Love and light.
*I also have some very good news that I will share with you all sometime!*
