Promise II by
If you don’t see anything beautiful today
that means it’s coming tomorrow
or the day after
Soon
or
eventually
There will be beauty again.
I have a code of ethics that I subscribe to when I engage in public facing work. How I write, what I write about, the things I choose to post on social media revolve around a few core elements and one of those things is simple; to amplify those things that are beautiful. I am constantly praying to see beauty in unexpected, hidden places. Maybe it is from growing up traumatized and shy. Maybe I have the heart of an artist beating within my chest. Regardless, I’ve made beauty (in all its forms) an anchor in a world that would only have me see pain, cruelty, and dysfunction.
So…what things have you all been finding beautiful lately? I’ll share a few things that have been making my soul smile in the hopes to lift your head today.
This book of poetry has touched my soul so deeply.
I got a record player
This birthday treat has been a healing balm. I have wanted one for years and my musician heart has been so happy to just put a record on, sit back with a drink and allow my whole body to decompress. There is something about vinyl that allows me to breathe deeper.
Watching the sunshine
Beautiful singing
A friend’s new instrumental album
I really hope ya’ll see beauty this week. I am so curious to hear how and where beauty finds you. I know that there is immense chaos all around us, griefs we bear, and things to resist. Beauty isn’t just an escape for me. It helps anchor me in order to perceive the world around me better.
I love Miles & John Coltrane, he is a native of NC. Lauryn Hill’s album as well. I have been meaning to read ‘Above Ground’. I read his other book, ‘How the Word Is Passed’.
This whole post really made me smile, thank you 😌 I don’t have a record player but I did recently buy a new cd player and listening to cds feels so nostalgic and intentional. I purposefully haven’t connected it to Bluetooth because I don’t want to slip back into the ease and instantaneousness of Spotify!
