theoethics in Black

a new academic series
17

So…here we are. I recently posted online that I was thinking about doing a once a month peek into the academic work that I do and people responded very enthusiastically. Above you can catch a video that I used to introduce this series and my work. Please enjoy. For a snippet of an abstract that I did for a recent academic paper/conference Here ya go:

We Need a God Who is Someplace: Finding God in the Seated Place of Toni Morrison

In Cole Arthur Riley's prolific book, This Here Flesh, Riley speaks to the need of the marginalized to find a God who is tangible and reliable. This need to find a God who is in a particular place drives the heart of this paper. Furthermore, Black Christianites undergird this paper as so many Black Christians have undertaken this quest inside and outside of the academic space. Looking at the life and literary works of Toni Morrison, this paper will sketch out a vision of the multiply-marginalized and the search for a God who is more than just platitudes and wishful thinking. Utilizing literary analysis, theological reflection, and Black ethical frameworks, this paper will especially highlight the ways that disabled bodies and minds can and do find God.
